It looks like this was going to be a simple but still very beautiful photo of a frog sitting on a lily pad, but Mr. Frog had other ideas. He decided to strut his stuff turned this into a rather unique image.
The action is excellent with just the right amount of blurring in all the right places, adding to the motion. The blurring of the water intensifies the action and helps to frame the frog.
The pose is beautiful and the slightly off-center placement is perfect. Being stretched out encourages your eyes to wander a little while the frog still holds your attention.
The contrast of the dark water and the bright lily pads works nicely with his markings and colors without loosing him in a sea of similar colors.
I don't know if all the green on green might bring down points in some strict, official competition, but I love how it came out. The pebbly texture, depth, and wet sheen make it work beautifully on that flat green.
That one raised leaf and single flower add to the contrast and help make sure the background isn't too green and flat.
The only thing that might take away from it in an official competition is that the intensity of the flower draws your attention a slightly away from the focal point, but it's a beautiful flower and without it there really wouldn't be enough contrast and there would be a bit too much green. It's not by much and the impact and unique nature of this image more than make up for it. I didn't really notice until I started scrutinizing for this critique. The picture is nicer with the lily than it would be without.
My first critique. Hope it comes out alright; I had the most trouble with rating. It wouldn't let me just rate it on impact.
